Minutes, 24 August, 2011
Present: Committee members Ron Meick. Danny Schweers, and Ray Seigfried (chair). Absent: Cynthia Dewick and Harold Kalmus. Also present: Sally Sharpe.

Vacant Dwelling Ordinance
This ordinance was revised after the last Town Meeting, where it was read for the first time. The committee reviewed it at this meeting and approved it. Click here to see the final approved version of the Vacant Dwelling Ordinance.
Land Use Exemptions for The Ardens
Proposed exemptions for The Ardens from New Castle County's Land Use ordinances will be voted on soon by the County Council. Ray Seigfried succeeded in resolving a delay.
Eden Rock Possibilities
Eden Rock, the elder-care facility in Ardentown, suddenly closed after the owner died. The committee will look into what role the Village might play in its future existence.
Arden Here To Stay Program
An organized, membership-based plan that provides services for older adults in the three Ardens is being created. The hope is that older adults can live their lives to the fullest, independently, in their own homes. The organizers are basing their current thinking on the Beacon Hill Village, founded in Boston, Massachusetts, and other Aging in Place programs.
Examples of services that the Arden Here-to-Stay program could offer:
(1) easy access to home health aides,
(2) transportation to stores and doctors,
(3) geriatric care management,
(4) referrals, and
(5) discounts to service providers such as electricians, plumbers, homecare specialists — and much more.
Better Interest Rates on Sherwood Forest Loan?
The committee discussed re-financing the Sherwood Forest loan, including the possibility of a municipal bond.
Next Meeting, Adjournment
The next meeting will be one week early, on Wednesday, September 14, at 7:00 p.m. We adjourned at 9:14 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Danny Schweers, Committee Secretary
