Community Planning Committee
Minutes, 15 February 2012
Present: Committee members Cynthia Dewick, Ron Meick. Danny Schweers, and Ray Seigfried (chair). Also present: Sally Sharp. Absent: Harold Kalmus.
Ray called this meeting to order at precisely 7:00 p.m. at the sound of the morning dove in Room 2 of the Buzz Ware Village Center. The previous minutes were approved.
Vacant Dwelling Ordinance
The Vacant Dwelling Ordinance was approved at the January meeting of the Town Assembly. Next step is to revise the letter composed last year to go to the owners of vacant dwellings. Cynthia Dewick agreed to take on this task. Danny will make sure the approved version of the ordinance is on the village website.
FEMA & Flood Insurance
Cynthia agreed to get in touch with Bev Barnett to see what her concerns are concerning the village cooperating with the federal FEMA program and how it might affect flood insurance.
Buckingham Green Suit
Sally Sharp will find out what the current status of the Buckingham Green suit.
Future of Eden Rock
Ray will ask Eno Krebs, chair of Ardentown, about the current status of Eden Rock, currently vacant.
We have a full slate of nominees -- four -- for village election at the March town meeting.
Danny hopes to migrate the village website to a WordPress platform so that anyone with a username and password can update their page or pages. Ron agreed to take on the responsibility of maintaining the Community Planning Committee's page once that happens.
Where From Here?
Cynthia wondered what was being done, and what might be done, to create a network of neighbors helping each other. Sally agreed to get in touch with Ruth Bean, Connee McKinney, and Judith Kay, who have been addressing similar issues. Cynthia also wondered if a visiting artist program couldn't be started in the village. She also wondered why Arden didn't have a coffee bar, a gym, and other amenities.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday, March 14, at 7:00 p.m. This meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Danny Schweers, Committee Secretary
